Description

These red velvet cookies have all the delicious flavor of your favorite red velvet cake but are much faster to make. With their soft and chewy texture and rich, fudgy flavor, it’s love at first bite!


Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp light brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 1/2 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 tsp red gel food coloring

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 tbsp cocoa powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup red sanding sugar


Instructions

1. Melt the butter and chill briefly.

2. Whisk butter, sugars, egg, vanilla, and coloring.

3. Combine dry ingredients separately and fold in.

4. Scoop dough, roll in sugar, and bake at 350°F for 9–10 minutes.

5. Cool before serving.

Notes

Use Dutch-process cocoa for deep flavor.

Don’t overbake for soft centers.
