Description

Healthy Candy Bracelets combine whole-grain cereal, dried fruit, and yogurt-covered raisins in a colorful no-cook snack craft that children can make, wear, and eat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain O-shaped whole-grain cereal
  • 1/2 cup dried apple rings, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries or cranberries
  • 1/3 cup banana chips with natural center holes
  • 1/3 cup yogurt-covered raisins
  • 1/4 cup candied or dried blueberries
  • 1/4 cup dried citrus peel, cut into small pieces, optional
  • 4 pieces food-safe elastic cord, each 12 inches long
  • 1 large blunt tapestry needle
  • Kitchen scissors
  • Small bowls for sorting

Instructions

  1. Wash your hands, clean the work surface, and divide the ingredients among small bowls.
  2. Cut the dried apple rings and citrus peel into bite-size pieces.
  3. Choose banana chips with existing center holes so they do not crack during threading.
  4. Thread one cereal ring onto each cord and tie it loosely near one end as a stopper.
  5. Attach the opposite end of the elastic cord to a large blunt tapestry needle.
  6. Slide cereal rings, dried apple, cherries, banana chips, blueberries, and yogurt-covered raisins onto the cord.
  7. Continue adding pieces until the bracelet fits loosely around the child’s wrist.
  8. Remove the needle and untie the temporary cereal stopper.
  9. Tie the two elastic ends together securely and trim the excess cord.
  10. Check the knot, serve the bracelet immediately, and remove the cord after eating.

Notes

  1. Adults should supervise children throughout the activity and handle the needle when necessary.
  2. Use a blunt tapestry needle rather than a sharp sewing needle.
  3. Check every packaged ingredient for allergens and shared-facility warnings.
  4. Choose soft dried fruit and sturdy cereal that will not crumble during threading.
  5. Finished bracelets taste best on the same day.
  6. Nutrition values refer to the edible ingredients only and do not include the elastic cord.
